Eivar MartinezUpon graduating from Ballet Juvenil de Venezuela, Mr. Martinez was offered a contract with the Ballet National of Caracas under Artistic Director Vicente Nebrada, where he quickly rose to the rank of principal dancer. He was featured in Nebrada’s Coppelia, Nutcracker, Don Quixote, Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet and Balanchine’s Tchaikovsky Pas De Deux among others.

He has toured Europe, the USA, China, and South America. As a competitor in the June 2000 New York International Ballet Competition, critics and audiences noted his technical virtuosity and athleticism. Mr. Martinez danced for two seasons as a member of Tulsa Ballet, where he was featured in Michael Smuin’s Romeo and Juliet, Paul Taylor’s Company B, Balanchine’s Who Cares? and Agnes de Mille’s Rodeo among others. He then joined Festival Ballet Providence during its 25th season. Rhode Island audiences enjoyed his technical brilliance in Giselle, Cinderella, Don Quijote, Swan Lake, Diana and Action, Le Corsaire, Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Julliet, Nutcracker, Rodeo, Spring Waters, Carmen, Anthony Tudor’s Leaves Are Fading, Scheherazade, and others.

Mr. Martinez’s most recent work is with Dance Alive National Ballet, where he performed works such as Dracula, Nutcracker, Black Swan, Grand Pas Classique as well as many contemporary works. Mr. Martinez is married to dancer Heather Martinez, and the couple had their first child three years ago. This will be his second season with Kentucky Ballet Theatre.
