Lazaro Franciso Ortega Avila

Lazaro was born in Havana, Cuba. He graduated from The Cuban National School of Ballet where he obtained his diploma as ‘Ballet Dancer-Teacher’. As a student, on 2017 he participated in performances with the school around Costa Rica and participate at the ‘International Competition for Ballet Students of Cuba’ where he was highly acclaimed by the judges as a finalist.
On 2019, he joined The Cuban National Ballet as a corps de ballet. Through out his 3 years at the company, he performed multiple roles of the classical repertoire in such as Alicia Alonso’s ‘Giselle’, ‘Swan Lake’, ‘The Nutcracker’, ‘Cinderella’, ‘Coppelia’ and ‘Don Quixote’; and George Balanchine’s ‘Theme and Variations’. He also performed neoclassical pieces such as Alberto Mendez’s ‘Muñecos Pas de Deux’, ‘Poema de Fuego’ and ‘Suite Generis’, Anabelle Lopez Ochoa’s ‘Celeste’, Roser Muñoz’s ‘Seventh Symphony’ and James Kelly’s ‘Sinfonia para 9 Hombres’. He has also participated in galas and festivals in his year with The Cuban National Ballet.
On 2022, he joined Sibiu Ballet Theatre in Romania as a company member where he performed as Prince Nutcracker in ‘The Nutcracker’, Golden Idol in ‘La Bayedere’, ‘Flames of Paris Pas de Deux’, ‘The Slave and Merchant Pas de Deux’, Marcello Algeri’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’, ‘Swan Lake’ and ‘Cinderella’. He has participated with the company in international tours to The Netherland, Belgium, Poland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Latvia and Lithuania; and national tours around Romania. He was also invited as a guest artist to perform as Franz in ‘Coppelia’ at ‘Ballet Gala Teatro Comunale Mesagne’ in Italy.
On 2025, he joined Kentucky Ballet Theatre as a company member in United States.
